At the Composition level, students work with accords, traditional fragrance families, and the principles of structure that guide the art of formulation. Classes focus on understanding how individual notes and materials interact, how balance is achieved, and how the narrative of a perfume plays across time and in space. More consideration is given to historical invention and conventions, broadening student awareness of the larger world of independent perfumery as design, craft and socially contingent medium.
This stage emphasizes attentive listening to scent as form and structure, and cultivates the skills needed to move from experiment toward intentional creation. we recommend that students at this level check out the Scent Archive offerings as additional relevant subject matter.
All Composition classes have Form pre-requisites, which are listed in each course link. Please pay attention to these requirements as we reserve the right to withdraw any participant who does not meet them at a partial refund.
