Sillarium : Seminars in Olfactory Art

Sillarium : Seminars in Olfactory Art
This series is not yet scheduled.
Scheduling will be announced on instagram @cracherdanslasoupe and in our newsletter.
Sillarium (n.) — From sillage (Fr., “wake, slipstream,” especially the scented trail left in the air by perfume) + -arium (Lat. from Gr. -arios, “a place or receptacle”).
Sillarium is a malleable series devoted to the many ways scent occurs within artistic practice. The first set of these seminars will trace early historical instances of fragrant artwork, examine individual artists’ approaches, and explore thematics and questions that olfactory works tend to raise. Practical considerations also come to the fore such as how scent is presented in galleries, museums, and collections, and how works are written about, theorized, and critiqued. We will also turn toward questions of translation across the senses, the politics of ephemerality and complications of reception.
The series will be presented by a number of invited guest artists as well as by myself.
Each seminar will be individually introduced and publicized on an ongoing basis, reflecting real time shifts in focus and new collaborative growth.
Seating is limited, so be sure to book your spot well in advance
Most of these seminars will take place at People, which is a project space in the same building as Molecular School at 4277 Fraser Street. Some will take place elsewhere, which will be announced at time of publicizing. Please pay attention to location info for each session
