Volatile Practices

draft 1 chatgpt edit: Volatile Practices is the school’s stream for experimental and interdisciplinary approaches to scent. It embraces the fleeting, unstable, and often intangible qualities of olfaction, opening space for speculative inquiry, dialogue, and creative play. This stream includes seminars, discussions, and open formats that encourage exploration beyond traditional boundaries—where scent intersects with art, philosophy, and lived experience.

Rather than focusing on fixed outcomes or technical mastery, Volatile Practices invites participants to engage with scent as a process, a phenomenon, and a material that resists easy definition. It is a site for thinking aloud, testing ideas, and encountering scent’s unpredictable qualities in new ways.

Programming in this stream is designed to be open and flexible, welcoming practitioners and thinkers from diverse backgrounds who are curious about the possibilities of scent beyond the conventional.

Molecule Bar???? Diffusion Night? Diffsion Lab?

Rogue Hours?

Drift Sessions?

just super brief and direct intro blurb here then links to reg shop page, wherein “product info” will contain lots of longer info blurb so take from these and move most to the other:

claude’s: Most people encounter scent as finished compositions—perfumes, candles, cleaning products. But every scent is built from individual aromatic molecules, each with distinct characteristics and possibilities. These sessions offer you direct access to this foundational level of olfactory experience.

Monthly two-hour sessions where you can access our lab's collection of aromatic molecules and raw materials for independent experimentation.

You'll have full access to the material library with no structured instruction or curriculum. I'll be available to answer questions about specific molecules, safety protocols, and basic handling, but you direct your own exploration. This is not a teaching session—no formulas or techniques will be provided, as these are covered in our formal classes.

Suitable for any experience level. All materials and basic lab equipment provided. Sessions run once per month for two hours.

mine: Air Bar is the first series of regular programming by the School of Invisible Arts. Offered once a month beginning in October 2025, participants can sign up to attend just once or on an ongoing subscription basis as desired. Air Bar is an evening of open perfume studio access. Participants will have access to the school’s entire perfume lab of materials for their own experimentation and self-study. These evenings will be facilitated by Megan Hepburn, but no formal instruction will be provided. Air Bar is open to all students who have completed one or more of the Ground level introductory classes. If you are an artist considering incorporating a scent element into your work, a sensory savant, curious oenologist, dedicated hedonist or an aspiring perfumer wanting to get to know some new materials without setting up an entire lab, this is the place for you to get in some practice hours.

details: (possibly in a new, dedicated air bar page?)

Come as you are, no bottles, pipettes, or grand designs are necessary, but do wear clothing you don’t mind spilling oil on.

This is an inclusive space so please be respectful of everyone. It is also a space for everyone to experiment, so be aware there will be lots of fumes jostling around each other, including some allergenic ones, so if you have sensitivities, be advised.

entry fee is $….

Duration of each session is 2 hours.

The full schedule of Air Bar nights is on the calendar.

Atmospheric Salon

Lectures in olfaction and culture…? olfactory art and culture?… figure it out.

first draft, edit, including for correct tone: Atmospheric Salons is a lecture and seminar series dedicated to the evolving field of olfactory art. This ongoing program offers a platform for in-depth conversations, critical reflections, and informal exchanges about the histories, challenges, and current directions of scent-based artistic practices.

Each Salon gathers artists, scholars, and enthusiasts to explore diverse topics—from landmark exhibitions and influential figures to the cultural reception and conceptual frameworks that shape how olfactory art is understood and created. The format ranges from focused lectures to open discussions, creating a flexible space for learning, debate, and community building.

Atmospheric Salons invites participants to engage with scent as a complex, often elusive medium—one that resists easy categorization but offers rich possibilities for artistic inquiry and critical thought.

at end above button, will have to say “to learn more about the specific topics coming up in the salon, click the link below.”
